A 3-day introductory course to single particle cryo-EM at Umeå University, combining morning lectures on cryo-EM theory with afternoon practicals and demonstrations in sample preparation and data collection.
This course, held at Umeå University on 1–3 December 2026, aims to prepare and train cryo-EM users in sample preparation methods and data collection workflows, and to teach the theory behind cryo-EM. The course is intended as an introduction to single particle analysis.
The course consists of lectures in the morning and practicals/demonstrations in the afternoon, including cryo lab work, hands-on microscope operation and discussions. A detailed schedule is provided to accepted participants.
The course is suitable for life science researchers, including graduate students, postdocs and staff scientists. Priority is given to those with a research project involving cryo-EM. The course is limited to 18 participants.
Apply via the registration form on the course page.
Coffee breaks are provided throughout the course; lunch is not included. SciLifeLab and Umeå University provide a course certificate and a recommendation for 1 ECTS.
The course is organised by the Umeå Centre for Electron Microscopy (UCEM) and supported by SciLifeLab, CryoNET and Umeå University.
